Acording to Citizens Advice more than 22,000 people were scammed in 2012, that means, on average, 60 people every day are falling for simple tricks designed by conmen to get your money, information or worse!
Citizens Advice have designated May Scams Awareness Month designed to help anyone and everyone become more aware of the ever evolving ‘tricks’ used on the general public day by day through Email, Snail Mail, even door to door ‘sales‘! A lot of the advice given may seem simple, but knowing is everything, and your brother, sister, uncle, mum or granddad might not be quite as savvy as yourself!
We’ve compiled a list of what we think are the most common scams and the common mistake people make when targeted by people out to do them wrong. you may learn one or two tricks that will help raise the alarm bells the next time it happens to you.

It may seem bold and brave but these con artists are nothing more than thieves, praying on any target they think gullible enough to ‘fall’ for their schemes, plots or fly away plans to make them richer, leave the rest of us out of pocket, no matter what our situation. These scams can be the most profitable for them but the risk is definitely greater, meeting potential targets face to face.

The enthusiastic young Gentlemen are suited, booted and full of charm, and thats not all! Equipped with the latest technological breakthrough, they make outrageous promises about cutting your Electricity Bill in HALF, or your money back. Pay Now for a full, 2 year Guarantee… Unfortunately all your left with is a worthless piece of paper and a funny bit of plastic you keep trying to fit round your meter.
[colored]Cheap Home Improvements[/colored], What Luck!
Wether its FREE Home Improvements, Discounted Extensions or a Survey of your house at a reduced cost, most of these Scams start nice and end up with you paying a small Administration Fee before the real work gets started, which obviously never happens. These are usually carried out by professional sweet talkers and they prey upon those ‘too nice’ to refuse midway through any kind of agreed terms.

More often than not, when it seems too good to be true, its a Scam! Promises of large sums of money, expensive gifts or dream holidays can be hard to resist and ‘it cant hurt’ can be a dangerous attitude to take! With so many companies, papers, adverts offering freebies every day, this one could be real! make sure you know the Scammers tricks when it comes to give-aways.

Most of us will have seen these Emails, a lot of us have even seen the letters, some may even have fallen for the Scam.
